Brexit Should Serve as Warning to US About Trade Deals

In this week's Analysis Behind the News video, JBS Director of Communications Bill Hahn addresses British Prime Minister David Cameron's call for a UK referendum on continued membership in the European Union (EU). Hahn compares Cameron's desire to keep the UK in the EU despite opposition from a majority of Britons to the enactment of the Lisbon Treaty despite Ireland's initial referendum vote against ratification of the treaty and EU membership. Hahn also commends EU MP Nigel Farage and UKIP for their efforts to educate people and promote both British independence and withdrawal from the EU. What started out as apparent simple trade agreements between the UK and other European nations resulted in regional government and the loss of British national sovereignty. The United States, as Hahn explains, is at risk of being in the same predicament in the future if the U.S. Senate ratifies both the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and eventually the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) that is still being negotiated.
